Mine did that on the Golf..... just purchased some new plates and stuck them on with some double sided "extra strong" tape.. the plates wont be coming off in one piece!!!

(also.. even if you car rip the plates off... the tape is so stong its pulls the backing off the back of the plates making them un-usable
