:D Hi

The FIX is near the bottom of this post.

I posted a request on 14/01/2009 asking if it's OK to recomend a mobile mechanic who knows his stuff.

I got zero replies - so I'll give you his details below.

I've listed the previous posts here for details of the problem

Okay - this is what happened next AND the final solution.

A mobile mechanic fitted the relay "219" and the car started.

It ran okay for a while - but then on the 12 December 2008 as I came off the M25 junction 4 it just died again.

The strangest part is this - my wife was watching the "how many miles left in the tank" indicator, and was waiting for the car to cut out and stop. And stop it did - exactly the same amount as the two previous times: at "365 miles left."

Called out the RAC.

RAC split open the flat air channel and sprayed carb fluid - after a while it spluttered into life then died again.

I explained to the RAC guy that this was the third call out for the same problem, and thought that the problem had been solved by fitting a new 219/ECU relay.

RAC checked for power to the pump - found none.

He applied power from a battery pack to the fuel pump, and after a while it started.

He removed the power pack and the car continued to run (he was expecting it to stop).

He thought maybe there is another pump inside the engine compartment, and that the power is turned off, after the car starts.

So he rang the helpline - they said no, the pump should be live at all times and that his testing kit was faulty.

It wasn't, as this happened on the previous call out - I saw for myself that the light on the probe turned green (no power) but the car was still running.

The RAC guy could not understand this.

To get me home, he rigged up a wire from the rear lamp with a fuse, which powers the pump.

I would have to remove the fuse everytime I switch off.

The mobile mechanic came back (late evening 21 December) - and found another relay on the same circuit.

This relay is a "167" which is located under the steering wheel near the fuse box housing.

He tried to fix it - but in the end I brought another.

Put the "167" in and disconnected the direct power line to the pump.

This "167" has solved the problem.

I have done hundreds of miles since and have gone down to 20 miles left in the tank.

In my opinion this mobile mechanic is a genius. He went that extra mile everytime.

He's also done my rear brakes and fitted a new radiator.

Top bloke.

He only covers Kent and East Sussex.

Hope all this helps someone, someday.
