Hi,
Was this grille/bumper pictured below only ever fitted to the GT TDI 170 or did the GT TDI 140 ever have it????

Thanks

Just looks like the grill on my GT Sport TSI 140 (standard on GT Sport, I think).

the bumper is as above says from the gt sport line. but the grill seems to be r-line.

Standard on the GT SPORT (both 140/170 diesel and the 1.4TSi petrol), the GT SPORT was introduced in 2007. The earlier GT model has the grill found on the current S/MATCH models.

Not sure what you mean Darran?

ZF44 - Thanks...
So that grille was fitted to the GT Sport (GT TDI 140 and 170) after 2007?
Before 2007 that grille was fitted to the GT TDI 170

I'm leaving out info on Petrol as i'm only concerned about the diesel.

So my 2004 GT TDI does not have this grille as on the Match model.
So are you saying if my GT TDI was built a few years later it would have the grille pictured at the start of this thread?

In short i want the grille in the thread (by doing the full bumper conversion) but only if the GT TDI 140bhp did at some point later in the years have this grille as standard - otherwise i don't want to make it look like something it is not. I'd just like to update the look.

This make sense - hopefully someone can set me right.

Thanks.

I think the diesel and petrol cosmetically are the same.

I don't think the Match has the same front end as the GT Sport, as the front end was suppose to make the GT Sport look different from the standard Golf but not as aggressive as the GTI.

Yes, as mentioned above, all Golf GT Sport models built after that date had that grille regardless of engine type.

to clarify, here goes with pictures........

2004 - when the Golf was launched, the GT looked like this which looks like the current S/MATCH models.

2006 - the GT had a mild face lift while the rest of the range looked the same.

2007 - the GT SPORT was introduced with the black grill you prefer.

Ahh thanks. Makes sense with the pictures - thanks very much.

So my early GT TDI 140 would not look silly or wrong if i update it to the GT Sport bumper as the later GT TDI 140 has this as standard?

The black part is part of the grille rather than the bumper isn't it?

Thanks,

Ben

the black part (the bit that is directly behind the number plate), is a separate part, it comes in the same box as the upper grille, numberplate board, numberplate board fixings. It comes primed, ready for painting, it is up to you what colour you want yours painting.

The difference between the 2nd and 3rd photo, is the part behind the numberplate is colourcoded to the car.

Trust me on this.

tom, my car is the silver one in the pic below. it is a feb 2004

So if it comes primed what is the standard colour name and colour code of the black colour?

hi tom,

i don't know the colour code, i just told my bodyshop that i wanted shiny black that i could see my reflection in. They also had by chance a good example in their workshop at the time.
