Hello all. I have a 2001 180T Passat. Can you help. I need to establish if my coolant temperature sensor is faulty. My sensor has 4 pins. I would like to know what resistance readings one should get between pins 1&2 and between pins 3&4 at ambient temperature (say 20C and at high temperature +100C). In particular does anyone know if the internal circuitry is the same for the two sets of pins? Further if I have the ignition on, what voltage using a DC voltmeter should I measure between pins 1&2 and 3&4. Thank you.

Can't answer your questions but would say these are such a common failure and are relatively cheap that it is probably simpler just to replace it.

Why are you worried about it? What symptoms are you getting from the car?

The temperature gauge is erratic. Sometimes works perfectly other times stays at 0C so not sure if I have a wiring problem or whether temperature sensor is failing intermittently.
