I have just ordered one myself, I found comparing it with a Civic Type S, and the Audi A3 S-Line with the old 2.0 FSI which I believe is the engine that was in the Golf Sport before the TSI 140.
Hope this table helps.

But like you, if anyone has any info I'd be glad to hear it.

How much did you pay? (EDIT-Should have added; "If you don't mind if I ask?")

They had me for £16247, with;
17"Estoril Alloys
Metallic Paint (Still think this is cheeky)
Parking Sensor
Front Centre Armrest
3 Year Gap Insurance

I want to know if anyone has one and if so whats it like? :D

I've seen the performance spec on this and just wondered what people thought about it and what they could tell me about the car ! Also why its a group bloody 13 insurance.

the insurance group.... itll be so high presumably as its a vw, its a golf, its a sport and it has 140bhp..and its a 3 door, so therefore classed more as a hot hatch than a standard hatch back, 9/10 1 5 door of the same car will be a lower insurance group. i suppose it could also be something to do with the weight difference.

The fact it has both a turbo and a s/c has to play a part in the insurance group too ;)

Interestingly, when I checked it on the ABI group check (http://www.abi.org.uk/carinsurance/search.asp), it seemed that as per the new regs:
Advisory insurance Group
From January 2007, the range of insurance groups will be expanded from 1 to 20, to 1 to 50. All vehicles that have a security "suffix", which covers the majority of cars from about 1996 on, will have been allocated an insurance group between 1 and 50. These new groups will be published alongside the 1 to 20 groups. The latter will continue to be published until further notice.

With regards to the 140, in proportion this looks like a better deal 18/50 rather than 13/20.
The lower group relating to safety and security.
I remember when I had an MG ZR, after initial classification, they lowered the group after a year or so. Once the engine has been in use for a while perhaps the group could change in this instance also.

To put this into perspective my old 1.6 Alfa 147 was 12/20 and is now 24/50. Was lower than the 140, now higher.

Well, I don't own one, so I can't give you any opinion. But even if I did own one, it would be my opinion, based on my needs and expectations.

If you have doubts as to weather the car is exactly right for you, then go back to the *******, tell them you are having second thoughts, and ask them if you can borrow the demonstrator for a whole day!

The actual engine seems to be very good, having won the 2006 International Engine of the Year!

Personally, I think your questions are a little simplistic. The ABI insurance group will be clearly stated in the official sales literature. You should have read/studied this before comitting to a purchase. The ABI group cannot be changed. If you are unhappy with the prospect of high insurance, then you should reconsider your purchase.

But I'm sure your aware that Insurance groups are also dependent on actual potential, as well as historical repairs. As the Alfa gets older, it becomes harder to weld new ravioli cans to rust. :D :biglaugh:

Which is nice to see a the golf at 6 less than the 147 under the new system, than 1 more under the old system.
