Hi, my sister has a SEAT LEON 1.4 on a 52 reg, and unfortuantly she has a problem with it cutting out. It only seams to happen on short town trips it began intermittently but is now quite regular in its occurance mostly daily.

Her local garage has surggested changing a couple of engine sensors quoting her around £100 for each but cannot gaurantee this will fix it!

If anyone has any ideas about what this problem maybe your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Dave

When you say “dying” and “cutting out”, is this whilst driving along in gear or when coming up to a junction and putting the clutch down? Does the car start again straight away or is there prolonged cranking or a wait involved? Has the car had a fault code read done? If so, what were the results?

She tells me its when she is driving in town, in traffic at junctions and once around a roundabout, out of town on straight runs it drives perfect.

It has not had a fault code read done as she lives on a remote Scottish island and the nearest dealer that can do it is over 100 miles away including a 45 mile ferry crossing meaning a visit to the dealers is a 2 day round trip.

Any ideas would be a help.

Thanks Dave

In the trade we would tend to call that stalling.

The throttle body needs removing, cleaning and resetting and to do the reset a suitable diagnostic computer is required.

Is there no garage within a reasonable distance that has a diagnostic computer?

Thanks, will pass your info on hopefully she can find someone to do the reset.

i take it that it generally doesnt have to have fault lights on for their to be fault codes?? a mechanic said it sounds like a cold starter switch?? if there is any 1 on the forum from northern ireland could you recomend any vag specialist mechanics?? cheers:beerchug:

It does not have a cold start switch but it does have a coolant temp sender and these are very prone to failure. Any modern well equipped garage should be able to do a fault code read for you.

Don’t guess, get a fault code read done.

Hi, my sister had the throttle body removed and cleaned. She hasn't had a problem with the car since.
