I want to replace the driveshafts and CV joints on my 1994 Audi 80,and would like to know if this is a straightforward job or if any special tools are required.

not too bad a job to do. jack up, place on stands, remove both wheels and both nuts fron the centre< which you loosened before jacking up>. remove pinch bolt from ball joint and lower arm pushes down. manipulate strut to remove cv joint. you will have to put onto full lock to do this. undo 6 bolts that hold inner cv joint onto drive flanges using a spline bit, and jobs a goodun. replacement is reverse but use new bolts and nuts for the balljoint pinch bolts, and the big bolt in the middle that holds the cv in place, but also clamps the wheel bearing together.no special tools required. you will need an m8? spline bit and a 30mm? socket for the hub nut. these nuts will be tight, but you should be able to undo with a breaker bar. you may need someone to stand on the brake pedal while you jump on the bar.

On some models all you have to do is remove the large nut on the hub undo the spline headed bolts on the driveshaft drop to one side and pull away from the hub as easy as that no lower ball joint removal
