I have some problems on my 2002 VW beetle- which i need to diagnose

?

I have brought a VAGCOM cable and loaded the shareware VAGCOM SOFTWARE but the engine controller doesnt seem to be responding despite the test signal being OK

any advice in particular getting the VAGCOM to work as that probably my first step in nailing down the problem

would the the SHARWARE VERSION be the one that should work
OR is it THE FULL VERSIOn that you have use?

I was told that the shareware may block scanning of the controllers in a beetle- does this mean it wont work at all?

thanks for any help

cheers

The shareware version should work fine.

Did you have the ingnition on, engine off?

Did you go directly to the control module to scan it for faults?

Do you have an aftermarket radio?

What kind of problem are you trying to diagnose? Does the car run?

Did you have the ingnition on, engine off? - ive tried with engine on ignition on and ignition off

Did you go directly to the control module to scan it for faults? yes i went dierct as i have read that scanning all the control modules can damage the airbag and hence i was trying to avoid scanning gthe airbag control module

Do you have an aftermarket radio? - no its the original radio

What kind of problem are you trying to diagnose? Does the car run?

yesthe car does run OK

I have the following problems on my 2002 VW beetle

a check engine light was coming on intermittetly and now staying on all the time

ther also seems like a rattling noise under the car from the exhaust

also for some strange reason both my brake lights blew out- not sure if all this is connected?

the engine oil was also low and so i topped this up - but the light remains on
