A4 Alloys on a Golf?

Im looking at buying some new alloys for my golf. I have a 1.9 gt tdi, 2001, 3dr. I heard that A4 alloys dont fit a golf? can anyone help me out? I found some really nice ones but i need to check they fit before buying!

I found out the hard way! A4, A6 Passats etc use a 5 x 112 pcd stud pattern, Mk 4 golfs use 5 x 100mm so unfortunately they will not fit.
I think Mk 5 golfs moved up to 112 pcd
