:beerchug:Hi all,

Not been on for a while as the car has been great, however i have just developed a slipping cluch, price to replace from audi £761 all in, but having priced the parts from a different source they seem to make a big thing on the flywheel needing replacing, however at £410 for the flywheel alone it could be a nasty bill, dose anyone know of ant tell-tale signs that the flywheel would need replacing or it is a caseof you won't know untill i is in bits.

Thanks inadvance,
Matty

If you are not mechanically minded you will have too rely on the honesty of the repairer, Remember if the flywheel gives up after the clutch replacement you will have too pay for the labour again, Just had the same problem with my clutch ended up having clutch and flywheel replaced at an audi specialist costing £1200.

Without sounding dumb, why is there so much emphasis put on changing the flywheel when renewing the clutch, is it just referring to diesels? I have owned many different cars in my 28 years behind the wheel, I have also changed clutches on several different makes/models of car, never have I changed a flywheel, what possibly could fail on a disc of cast iron with no moving parts.:confused::confused::confused:

As bez said, the DMF was implemented on many modern cars and especial diesel engines as an refinement...The thing is, modern diesel engines are soo torquey that the DMF is put under masive strain. The DMF has a spring imersed in grease wich-when the clutch slips-will boil the grease and the spring loses its elastic properties. Then, the engine will start vibrating heavily on iddle and will eventually take off the clutch and the other way round. Its a good measure to replace the flywheel while replacing the clutch....

So my 2.0ltr ALT engine won't have a DMF? My clutch will need doing soon and I'm now worried that it's going to be costly.
