Hi,
My vehicle is a 2001 sharan 1.9tdi. I've been the happy owner for the last 2 years but for the last few months i have been noticing a curious and irritating problem.
When the vehicle is idling, the revs will suddenly pick up to approx 1100rpm independently. No clutch is engaged and accelerator is not touched.They will hold at this level for anything between 30 seconds and 2 minutes before returning to a normal level of about 700. This can happen at anytime regardless of engine being hot or cold.Occasionally it will do it at engine start up resulting an over rev which causes some embarrasment if anyone is watching.
The vehicle has been connected to a diagnostics pc but no fault came up.
A friend has suggested putting some form of engine clean additive in when i next top up but am not sure about this.
If anyone has experiened this before or has any ideas i would be very grateful.
