Would you say this is low? I put in about 55 Litres and getting around 400 to the tank from a 1.8T 160. I do 12 miles to work and then the 12 miles back. Most of this is in 6th gear on the M4 and M32 doing about 40-50 mph and then a few miles in 30mph zones. I cant help but think it should be better than this

I must say it does appear bit low (33mpg) the brochure quotes (39 mpg) .do expect lower MPG at this time of year though due to the amount of electrics in use. My last car was a 1.8 and i used to get 41-42 mpg in the summer and around 35-36 in the winter.

The new A4 tdi 143 is giving me around 49 at the mo so i would expect around 53 in the summer.

Thanks for the reply Wolfy! I did get low 40s on a long motorway trip to Portsmouth from Bristol but that was only after a few 100 miles on the car. Im now on 3K so would hope it would improve a little bit. I dont have the roads to drive with more spirt as the roads are pretty busy around me and work. I change gear before 3k rpm all the time now so hopefully it might improve! Thank you

Hi 1.8 tfsi 160.

Done 7500 miles mixture of motorway and town driving.
41 to 43 on the motorway, 27 to 32 around town. average over a tank full tends to be 33 to 34 mpg. Yours sounds similar.

I average 375 to 400 miles from a tank from my 3.0TDI mainly on M1, M6, M40 & M5 and good love the centre of Birmingham :aargh4:

I'm not doing quite as well but my trip to work is 35 miles. Much of this is 80-100 with occasional 120+ but I've averaged 30.7 overall for the past 3000 miles. I've noticed dramatically better running on 4 star and better response. She is quite lumpy on basic unleaded.

Now got 9000 miles on the clock with my 1.8T 160.

40 mile round trip commute and the morning 2nd gear crawl for 6 miles followed by 50mph procession and final 4 mile crawl gives 41 max, usually about 38.6.....funny how that figure keeps appearing.

Town driving gives mid to low 30's and also tried experiment with Shell ordinary v V-Power. No discernible difference on normal driving so I'll take the saving thanks.

Thanks everyone for the replies. At least others appear to have the same sort of figures as me. Nothing to worry about. I guess its just because Ive only ever had three cars before , a 1.1 and two 1.6s......... this is the most powerful car Ive had! :Blush2::Blush2::Blush2: and I guess this is what I should expect with a petrol turbo. Thank you

My last car was a Golf GT with the 1.4 Twincharger with circa 170 horses trying to get out. If you think the fuel economy on the 1.8T is a little on the low side, my GT must have single handedly kept a couple of oilefields going. And I drove gently.....mind you, that might have also been nervousness after the first engine gave up after just 2 days!:biglaugh:

The A4's fuel consumption therefore came as a positive relief to me...

Mine says I get 435-450 when I fill up... Do you put V-Power diesel in? Most of my driving recently has been from home to work (too cold to cycle ;)), so nasty town usage, and i do cane it up one of the hills on my way home, you have to get the buzz from the torque and the 3.0 engine at least once on every journey! :D

I do use V-Power or Ultimate but sometimes standard. Average driving of 800 miles per week mainly motorway. MPG is getting better started at 350 per tank. Car has 7,600 miles on the clock

Hi, covered 13K miles in 2.0 TDI (143) Multitronic with majority motorway miles at 70mph (honest) and getting on average 41 mpg. If pushing hard this can drop to 36 mpg but never any more than 45 mpg when trying really hard to save fuel.
