Hi Quick Question, When Im Driving And I Let Off The Throttle And Im Rolling In Gear, The Gearbox Seems To Wind Slighlty, The Slight Noise Stops When I Dip The Clutch Or I Accelerate Again.
Would This Be A Sign Of The Gearbox Oil Needing A Top-up?
Thanks In Advance

Mine is doing this too - I hope it just needs a top up/change. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with an answer :)

If your on about the gearbox oil, they are considered sealed for life, so no need to top up unless you have a leak.

as for the OP could we have year and specific model of car, the whine maybe thrust bearing, but that usually when the clutch is dipped ie the bearing is under load.

Mine is a late 02 TDI 130, 6 speed box. Whine only audible when you let off the accelerator in gear. Al.

same happened to mine. needed a new gearbox. 3rd gear used to shunt itself out back into neutral but after about a month of driving with that sound.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum :nana:. I've had my Passat for 3 years now and it has been whine-ing for the last 6 months, you can hear it above 40MPH and the pitch changes with road speed rather than engine speed, I've been told its the differential bearings. Going to cost arm and leg as clutch on its way out too. Going to get it done at local VW specialist. I'll let you know how it goes after the 16th of Feb, when it goes in.
