Yes I've finally seen the light and bought a 97 A6 2.8 quattro avant. So far I love it but wanted to check a couple of things. It came without the owners manual so can anyone tell me what is the correct/best grade of engine oil to use (and quantity including an oil filter change)? Also what plugs and what should the gap be set to?

I have the saloon 2.8 quattro. Awesome machine indeed.

I'm using semi-synthetic 10/40w oil in it and it's fine (made by Mobil). Takes about 6 litres. Plugs are already set to correct gap for you.

Enjoy your car, bloody quick too....

In fact, mines a 97/98 model - I could photocopy my handbook for you if you like?

Thanks for the info Niall. That would be fantastic if you could copy your handbook. I live in France so let me know the postage etc and I can reimburse you. Having just gone through all the paperwork thoroughly the latest service I can see was 18 months/20k ago and it looks like the plugs were changed then so maybe I'll get away with just cleaning them and changing the oil & filter for now.

Niall,

Damm, just thought that if yours is the one in your picture then mine is different as it is the earlier one (C4 I think?). Thanks anyway for the offer though. If anyone else has the same as mine any chance of the same kind offer as Niall?

Hope you have luck with it - I'm sure someone will be able to help
