When I start my engine my radiator fan starts to run straight away. My engine management light is also on and my temperature gauge sometimes moves and sometimes doesnt. Does anyone have any ideas.:1zhelp:

The fan will run because the aircon is on.
The temp sender is probably u/s-very common.
Have the codes read from the ECU to see what is wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I will have the management issue checked. Can you fix the temp issue?

i posted a reply today to the engine management light problem. re the temp gauge I had the coolant temp sensor replaced and all ok now, no fan and gauge working fine.

Thanks for your help everyone but the fan in the engine compartment still runs as soon as the engine starts, even with the air con switched off.

Just to clarify: there are two fans, one engine driven and one electrical and both are turning all the time ?

If so is the electrical one a full speed (very noisy) ?

Yes the electrical one is running at full speed and sounds like a jet

it sounds like the thermostat. on any other car they're £10 but
Audi one's are electrical too and will set you back about £60 plus labour

get your fault log checked first tho

just changed mine for that very reason ( fan on) fault gone and running at good temp now

hi

thermostat unit located under inlet manifold - follow dip stick pipe down
and you'll see/ feel it not easy to get at.
sensor at bottom of rad is cooling fan override switch( will turn fan on full power if engine too hot) engine coolant sensor found in cylider head at cabin end of engine - hard to see but it's there
