I have the 17" standard alloys on my mkV golf GTi and need to replace the front 2 tyres. I've found the standard continental tyres to be lacking in grip even with plenty of tread so would like to know what tyres others have got and if there any good .

I'm looking at getting Goodyear Eagle F1's as they were really good in the past on my previous car.

Any advice would be most appriciated.

Uniroyal Rainsport 2. Uniroyal are owned by Continental but the Rainsport 2’s grip wet or dry is the best I have experienced BUT the wear rate is higher.

Yeh, Ive had Uniroyal Rainsports on all round the last three times and only get around 15000 miles from a set of four. Im going to get Mitchelins fitted anytime now. Although they will cost more, Im hoping it will be worth it in extra milage.... will see in around 15000 miles!!

goodyears all the way for me!found them excellent in all weathers and the extra side wall rim protector was a bonus for when the missus drove my car(mint golf anni with burnished finish wheels)

Just had my Uniroyal Rainsport's off and replaced by Mitchelins today. The Uniroyals had - give or take a few miles - managed 16000 miles. Hopefully I will get more out of the new 'boots'!

mitchelins are the best for milage and fuel economy, but not so good for grip.to be honest if you want gripy tyres you will get less miles out of them.
