I bought a new A4 2.0 TDI (6 speed gearbox) in January 2005. Since then I have had occasional instances of the car not going into first gear. To get it to go in I had to ‘pump’ the clutch once and then it would go in. Last week my local Audi dealer fitted a new gearbox. Since then it has happened, again, 3 times.

Have any other Audi owners had the same problem?

Thanks

The technician at the local dealers said that if I still have the problem in a couple of weeks, they will take the car in again and look at the linkage. He's never mentioned (considered?) the clutch.

It worries me a bit, especially as drivers' reviews of the A4 in What Car? at http://www.whatcar.co.uk/reader-reviews.aspx highlight a lot of problems with the A4 gearbox.

I'm part-exchanging the car at the end of the year and part of me would like another one. Apart from liking the drive and mileage economy, I think it's the second-best looking car of it's class (the Saab 93/95 being the best) but as the next one will be my last new car I'm worried about repair and parts costs.

How do people find repair/parts costs for A4s after they're out of warranty?

Thanks for any info.
