The wife's Polo SDi was misfiring & a bit smokey, discovered that the throttle valve butterfly (Fitted to the inlet manifold) was closed, badly restricting the air intake. Traced fault back to a faulty solenoid valve (V60). I disconnected the vac pipe to the solenoid & blanked it off, the car now runs fine. The question is, what is the throttle valve there for? can I run without it? (A new solenoid is over 40 quid!) Bearing in mind that the throttle is controlled via the fuel pump on a diesel rather than the inlet.
