2001 ibiza 1.4s trouble starting

In the last few months I have noticed that if I try to start the car it will turn over but not start unless i press the throttle also idles roughly but is fine when warm. any ideas!!

If the problem is when its cold it sounds like the engine temperature sender could be faulty. If you`ve got any kind of code reader you can check the actual values for the sender, if its faulty it will be reading a negative value ie, the engine ecu will think its colder than it actually is so will be giving the engine a too rich a mixture making engine difficult to start and rough idling when cold.

Also the crankcase breather pipe just below the throttle butterfly is prone to splitting (causing an air leak) I have just changed one and solved the cold starting issue that you have described costs £10 from seat main dealer
