My 2.8 V6 makes a whining noise at Idle. If you coast in gear at 1000 rpm it makes the noise but as soon as the throttle is depressed it disappears.

It bugs me and I want to cure it.

Any Ideas?

I Can see why you would think that.

I have since discovered that the noise is coming from a small plastic valve which is linked by a vacuum hose to the fuel delivery to the fuel rail. What I think is happening is that the vacuum in the manifold is used a reference pressure for the fuel rail pressure. At idle the vacuum is high, and the pulsed nature of this, makes the plastic component vibrate against the body work. In low vacuum conditions there is no vibration and hence no noise.

I have moved this component and the noise is much better though not cured.

Any Idea what I'm talking about :1zhelp:
