Can anyone tell me the difference between a scirocco gt2 and a gtx?

Yes,

The GT2, or GTII, is the later GT and Scala replacement with a carb 1.8 engine.

GTX was made in the mid 80's - ended in 87-88 and had the injected engine. A few GTX 16v's were imported but it is unlikely you'll find a geniune one.
