Hello Forum

I have a strange problem on my D2 S8, I am going to try an describe as best as I can.....

When coming to a stop, (Foot on Brake Lightly)approx 5-6MPH, I get a few little shuds, as if the car was trying to get into 1st gear - BUT it also happens when I put the car into Neutral (which makes me think that it is NOT transmission related)

I have had the car on VAGCOM (NO FAULTS), she pulls like a train. she has 50K miles and the Transmission Fluid, Filter and Rings were changed at 40,000 Miles, she also has a full Audi History.

I am hoping that someone can help, the areas I think I need to look at are as follows:

Differential
PropShaft
Brakes

BUT just wonderig if anyone can point me eiether from Experience, or to check something I may have missed.

Again thanks in adavcne for those that reply

Hi ya, I'm no expert, but I am trying to relate this problem to something I reported to my Audi technician saying that when I am approaching junctions or allowing the car to downgear itself, it seems I am feeling that sensation - kind of like you experience when doing a gear kickdown when driving a manual box. Its obviously not as prominent, its very subtle but got to a point where it just got on my nerves.

Anyway the Audi guy told me that this was just how the engine manages its gearing kick down and behaviour varies from engine to engine or some crap like that ....

but what I will say is that soon after the BRAKE PAD light came on ... and when I took it to have the brakes checked, both the front discs and pads were changed and for some reason since then the problem is hardly noticeable - so me being no mechanic can only guess that a part of what you are experiencing must be to do with brakes :)

I drive an A8 3.0Tdi 2006. ............ if thats any help.

I should have said that the shuddering/kick down sensation is resolved by brake change for me.

Hi.

Funny enough - I have taken my car to VW/Audi dealership, and a Specialist (SportsTech) who have both said that this is normal (something to with the design and functionality of the Flywheel) I even took a brand spanking new A8 out when at dealership and funny enough you can feel a little through that as well.

I will get my brakes looked at even though all disks and pads are new - i get a 'warped disk' effect when slowing down, a slight judder.

Again many thanks mate! and good luck
