Looking at getting an Audi A3 3dr 2.0 TDI 140 2005/6 model.

I am wondering what people would do to it to increase its performance with a budget of about 2,000 sterling.

Regards
Joe

Right... Well im 20 and get my 3rd years no claims just after christmas and am getting it on finance... Looking to spent around 7-8.5k... So insurance will be cheaper on the 140 anyway..

But unless u can proove me wrong, then its what I want to go for..

Stick with the 140hp car.. they tune very nice .. The PPD 170's have a big turbo so you get a bit of lag and with the DPF on the exhaust there a pain to tune unless you take it off..

Thats just me though..

Ahh, I get it, you want to buy a 140 and tune it up to around 170 but not tell your insurance company.

Ofcourse I would tell my insurance company, that's what I will be baseing my quotes on, and if it's way too much of a step up then will probably be a no no.

If it's not worth it then I will just keep it as standard or have it tuned to increase its MPG and not just its perforamance, but we'll see.

Could someone point me in the right direction then please and offer some advice on what EXACTLY to do if I do decide to spend on peformance increase.

I would suggest you get a quote on a standard 140, a standard 170 and a 140 with a tuning box or a remap. The insurance company will want to know what the power is being increased to and typically that would be 170 to 180PS depending on what you do. Personally I am a fan of plug in tuning boxes and a quality brand such as Steinbauer will set you back around £500 and the PS quoted by Steinbauer for the Austrian and German TÜV is 169PS and 372Nm of torque.

Do u know how the tunning boxes work ??!!

Yes I do. Not all are fuel temperature manipulators. I also know that re-mapped cars cause me living hell when I have to do diagnostic work on them. I offer both ways.

I know there are a lot of very bad re-maps out there...

Not good as any one can get them off e bay !

I had a PD 150 in a few months back, a forum user’s car and one he had only just bought and it expired on his way home. To cut a very long story short, the turbo had exploded and damaged the engine so after a new head, one piston and a new turbo, I took it for a run. When I floored it I thought I was in trouble, the thing just took off and would not back off when I came off the pedal. As I went for the key, it backed off and I tried it again two more times with the same result. I knew it wasn’t oil pull up from the charge system as I had thoroughly pressure washed it out with TFR. We also had idle issues and suspected the new head had a faulty injector. The head was genuine and so we had to pass it onto the main dealer. They would not touch it until a standard ECU was fitted. We guessed that the previous owner had remapped it himself and over done it, blowing the turbo compressor section into a hundred bits in the process.
