help. engine probs

i have a 96 a4 avant, it has run fantastic for the last 12 months, however recently when starting in the morning the revs will suddenly drop and it will cut out when pulling up at lights. then once its warm and again usuallly while waitng at the lights, the car will rev itself up and then maintain the revs at between 2000 and 5000 revs, as you will understand this is not only annoying but costing a fortune in unnecessary fuel use.

Try the coolent sensor, its a cheap fix and may be the cause of your issue.

thanks i will try that tomorrow, any other ideas as to what it may be if that don't work
