VWAF VCDS User Map now available here - VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209563024277134815192.0004c505be14b22419db e&msa=0&dg=feature)

This is a list of people on this forum who have Vagcom / VCDS and who are willing to help other forum members. It is intended for posts by non-businesses. It is intended that this list will enable fellow forum members to help each other for FREE..... I say free, but really it would be rude not to provide a few beers for their trouble. Also the idea is to get you to buy Vagcom / VCDS yourself once you have experienced what it can do.

Anyone looking for help here please check that the person you are talking to is not a business otherwise it will cost you more than a case of beer!

Anyone looking for help, please DO NOT post questions in this thread, start your own thread or send a message.

RIGHT THEN FREAKS.... I've added an index per page. I've not listed any one post wonders and I've also identified "trade" members. If any of you find any dead posts and don't get a response from the member listed, send me a message and I will remove them from the index.

Original post below....

I'm new here and don't know if a thread like this exists so I thought I'd start one anyway.

The idea is that members can locate other members who have VAG-COM and that are willing to help.

Please note, this thread is to be used by those with VAG-COM. Any request for scans or help should be made in the general VAG-COM Information & Help (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42) section of the forum

Please DONT post questions on this thread PM User in your location or start a new thread

For those that don't know about vagcom, it is basically a PC based diagnostic software that provides you, the humble car owner, the ability to mend your own car! To briefly summarise what it can do;

1, Read and clear fault codes.

2, Monitor, display and log various system outputs (very useful for diagnosing intermittant problems)

3, Re-code engine car / parts for example if you swap your seats to those without side airbags where previously had them, the airbag controller will need re-coding.

4, Restore 'basic' settings, for example, the infamous throttle body alignment.

It does much more as well and in my opinion having vagcom to any home mechanic is as important as having a socket set!

Anyway, perhaps this should be a 'sticky' or if there is already a similar thread that should be made a sticky ?

I'll start in a new reply below, if others could follow the same format...

I have a Micro-CAN

Halifax(weekends) or Newcastle(mon-fri) area, as i work and live in both, am pretty new to this, have already worked the basics but learning all the time, and happy to help anyone with a problem.

i have a Audi A3 53 plate which is a 8P chasis

just email me csducks@hotmail.com

This interface is compatible only with cars based on Mk.5 Golf technology.

All Golf-5 platform cars (A5 platform) including:

2003+ VW Touran (1T chassis)
2004+ VW Golf/Rabbit/GTI (1K chassis)
2004+ VW Caddy (2K chassis)
2004+ Audi A3/S3 (8P chassis)
2004+ Seat Altea (5P chassis)
2004+ Skoda Octavia (1Z chassis)
2005+ Seat Toledo (5P chassis)
2005+ Golf Plus (5M chassis)
2005+ Seat Leon (1P chassis)
2005.5+ Jetta/GLI (1K chassis)
2006+ Eos (1F chassis)
2007+ Audi TT (8J chassis)
2007+ VW Golf Variant/Wagon (1K chassis)
2008+ VW Tiguan (5N chassis)
2008+ Audi A3 Cabriolet (8P chassis)
2005.5+ VW Passat (B6 Platform, 3C chassis)
2008+ VW Passat CC (35 chassis)
2008+ Skoda Superb (3T chassis)
2009+ VW Scirocco (13 chassis)
2009+ VW Golf (5K chassis)

If your car's chassis type isn't on this list, it's not compatible with this interface! All of these chassis-types are the latest generation of that model. Previous generations of the same model are not compatible and should use a KEY- or HEX- series interface instead. If you're not certain, please check your car's VIN. The 7th and 8th digit have the chassis code. For example: WAUMF78P06A0NNNNN is an 8P-chassis Audi A3

think im going to upgrade to newest soon, turning down little jobs at work cos they/i dont have the top version, all new/newer cars than i cant do with my 409 and if we trip the air bag light on by mistake, have had to send them the dealers, which obviously cuts into profit.

Where abouts in Preston are you based, please? My microCAN is OK for when I need it on my Octavia, but at the moment I have to travel to Warrington to borrow a HEX+CAN to work on my wife's Seat Leon. It would be really great if we could get together so you could look after the Leon for me as I'm based in New Longton, just behind Lancs Police HQ.
Once I get enough posts on the forum, I'll drop you a PM.

After reading your posts and doing some of my own research could one of you please give me the low down on the best place to get this software?
Also obviously I have to get the right lead to connect my latop to my car (interface) ?

Does Vagcom still work out if your car has been re-mapped?

It depends what car/model you have. Up to about 2004 you can buy a cheap cable from Ilexa or Gendan and download free VCDS lite from ross-tech web site. After 2004 (roughly) you need a proper ross-tech dongle and software which costs about £260 from Ilexa or Gendan. This is all explained on the ross-tech site. (Note: VCDS used to be called vag-com)

Hi djl78

I live in Quedgeley and have newly bought an Audi A2 1.4Tdi (2002) and noticed that there is a shortage of power after 50mph and high mph. I've been looking at many threads as to the possibe cause given the symptoms (pipes/hoses/MAF/intercooler/turbo itself etc).

Would the VAG machine that you have shed any further light as to the potential cause or are thee machines used more for resetting codes etc.

Many thanks if you can help

Regards

John

Just upgraded to HEX-USB+CAN (http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html) so I can help out on newer cars now.

I have a reasonable amount of experience using VCDS for a DIYer, including OEM additions like RNS-510, BT, Cruise Control (CCS). (I installed OEM CCS to a Polo 9N back in 1997. Fun!)

I don't promise to know it all, but if you have the time and patience, we can work out most things...

I am located near Southend, Essex.

If you think I can help out, please feel free to drop me a PM.

Not sure where you've got your format from, but if you read the first post in this thread you'll see that this is for beer tokens and/or free scans, not for users to make money.

Hi BigCol,

Just bought an A8 2005, TDi . Can we arrange to meet to get a scan done - having a lot of problems :

Since buying I have had to replace the handbrake switch and the start/stop switch. But now i have a message saying "ignition lock defective" and a picture of a key crossed out plus when I put in park I get a message saying "shift to park to stop the car rolling ..." It is in park but I cannot then release the key, the only way I can get the key out is by pressing the little switch by the barrel and puling the key out.

The car will only start if i Put the key in and press the Stop button and then turn the key.

Be great to understand what the problems are before giving to a garage or avoid giving to a garage if it can be helped.

Many thanks
