:1zhelp:Hi guys need help, When accelerating my Audi 1.8 non turbo from start my car holds back (has a lag) from 0-4000 rpms. Is there any way to overcome this? I have a K&N fitted as well as a free flow exhaust. Any suggestions………..?

Possibly a manifold flap problem, have it read for codes. Is the K&N a panel filter or induction kit?

In the inlet manifold there is a change over system that alters the length of the inlet tract to change the engines torque characteristics and the change over takes place at approximately 4700rpm. The test procedure for this system requires a registered version of VAG-COM or something similar that will allow the system to be operated.

No, the inlet manifold, but it is only one of half a dozen possibilities such as AMM and coolant temp sender. You need to get it read for fault codes.

Is it just lagging or do u hear any stange noises like pinking etc?

i had a car that did this. I scanned it and the fault code related back to the knock sensor. Changed this and it was sorted.

Hi thanks for the reply,
There’s no pinking, just the car fells sluggish as if its holding back then some days you find that it goes very well but im taking it for a fault scan today, will see what it comes up with. But its frustrating because I know it has the potential to go much better but ill keep you guys up to date with my findings im sure its most probably just a sensor or the computer that needs to be reset.

That will be why the manifold flap was not working, it is vacuum operated.
