Hi my 1.6 a3 has developed a loud metallic rattle when i pull off at low revs coming from the engine bay (maybe the passenger side) it also occurs when i change gear and the revs drop and the car starts to judder (all together it feels like the engine is going to drop out). i am starting to look into buckers24 post and a local mechanic said it was a worn down bush on the gear linkage but it sound alot more serious than that.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

it may be something simple like a cracked exhaust bracket.the exhaust makes an awfull noise when catching on the bodywork.

Get it up in the air and get somebody to give her a rev whilst you're underneath, there's no point coming to conclusions before you've sourced the fault. ;)

it is possible yes,but i would have thought that if it was making such an obvious noise,
then you would be able to feel it,or even see it, directly through the gear lever.

ill give it a once over when i get it in the air also i realised this rattle developed when i had the starter motor replaced could it be linked to that

thanks
