Hi Guys just thought I would share this, as I searched a lot of sites but nothing was specific to Audi A3 TDI.
I had a rattle in the front of the engine bay (Alarm bells rang!) It was only at idle and when pulling away, it was a metalic rattle, sounded serious.... Accompanying this sound there would be a screeching noise when the steering was at full lock (Fan/auxiliary/serpentine belt slipping) these problems were related.
How ever after searching a lot of websites I diagnosed the problem as the Fan belt tensioner....
I have today replaced this and the rattle has now gone.
£30 for tensioner, done it myself takes about 2 hours, I'm by no way a mechanic!
