I have a 2.5 tdi 05 Toaureg which i have been having intermittant starting problems, when i insert the key the ammeter shows a 12v charge, when the car does eventually start the ammeter goes to 14v which i think tells me the alternator is charging the battery, but when it dont start the engine just turns but will not fire, only after a dozen attempts it eventually starts.any comments on resolve?
Try operating the glow plugs 3 times before starting.
If it starts this would indcate worn out glow plugs

If it starts this would indcate worn out glow plugsThanks for that will try when happens again,or i might just have the plugs replaced, how long would you expect glow plugs to last currently 65000 miles on the clock, not been changed on service as i know of.

I have a 54 reg R5. Haven't had any problems with starting after 50000miles. Would be interested to know what is the cause though...just in case. Try a search on www.mytreg.com (http://www.mytreg.com), it may help.

In most cases if the car has over 100000 km it is the injector o- rings that are making problems
