Check your brake lights are working, could be a broken switch.

strangely enough, the same thing happened to me today.

My brake lights stopped working on the way home and then the glow plug light started flashing at me.

I guess its a loose wire at the brake light switch (above the brake pedal) , as moving them around a little solved (temporarily) both the problems.

This happened to my wife's car today as well - 2004 1.9 tdi quattro - esp light on constantly on dash display and emissions light also on now. Any help would be appreciated. The esp switch above the stereo doesn't appear to be switching on or off?
Very strange.:(

This sounds like the brake switch. I had exactly the same problem with my Passat and once the brake switch was replaced, the ESP light, glowplug light and ABS lights have all gone away and the brake lights are working again.

Cheers,

Exact same thing happened to me. Top brake light works, other two don't. Glow plug flashes, ESP on permanently (2002 Audi A4 TDI). Any more ideas?

Thank you for this post, My missus came home today and told me of this exact fault, thought this is bad, no idea what this is!!

Searched on this forum, found the problem,

I had one brake light out anyway, so dunno if the other has now gone pop or the brake switch that you guys talk about.

So tomorrow, gonna change both light bulbs and see if that fixes it, if its still on then will change the Brake switch.

Hope this works guys, will post again once problem fixed. Thanks for all the posts.

Had the ESP and ABS light on and swapped out the brake switch today after playing with the switch which just caused the brake light to come off and on it's own so this morning I shot round to Audi and £8.45 later and all is good.
My car is a 04 1.8TQ
