Hi all. Does anyone have any details on how I can upgrade the software on my Sat Nav (for free if possible) as I have spoken to Audi and not really got anywhere with them. I have an 07 A4 but the CD is dated 06. There was a new 07 release last year I understand but my car was given it. I was advised by Audi that these cars were sent a free upgrade but I did not own the car at that point as it was an ex demo from an Audi dealer. I asked the dealer for the upgrade but they have ignored me frankly. I would like it for the TMC function to work and also for my trip to Europe so I have up to date maps. Thanks.

You can update the software for free, but if you want TMC and new map data then you need a new DVD - You wont get that for free unless you can find a decent torrent on-line.

best would be to purchase one from Ebay.

I have just re-read your post.
I would contact the dealer and ask why a 07 car was supplied with an 06 disc, as the car is ex-demo they were the previous owner.
I think they are trying it on, if you have no joy complain to Audi UK.
When the disc with TMC was available both my cars with RNS-e (retro-fitted) were given the disc's free !!

I got the following reply from dealer:

Further to our conversation 2 months ago, all vehicles fitted with DVD Navigation come from the factory with the latest available disc. This is the only disc that Audi supply with the vehicle.

Audi UK do not give out free disc updates – although you can purchase these via parts department. They tend to come out every 18 months to 2 years with an updated disc. As I said to you previously I have been with Audi for over 10 years and sat nav upgrades have never been available free of charge. I am not sure who you spoke to at Audi Customer Services who advised you about the upgrade available, but this is not the case.

Audi are about launch a new nav system on the Q5 which uses 3G technology – this will have the ability to update itself automatically, but for all other systems available both past and present, the purchase of a new disc is the only way of updating the street maps.

The disc's with the TMC upgrade were available FOC for the first 6 mths of 2007.
Contact Audi CS0800 699 888.
Give them your reg No and ask if TMC should work in your car and what disc was supplied with the car, I suspect the dealer switched the discs

Audi were giving this disc away for free last year as I got one from them (RNS-E DVD) and the TMC has magically started to work. You could call them and claim they didn't tell you about this even though you asked about it and you might be able to get a disc from them

Ok, I spoke with Audi customer services and they confirmed that my car was given the offer of a free upgrade but maybe the dealer did not use it. I have asked the dealer again how we can settle this. Looks like I will have to buy them I guess! :aargh4:

Good news!

I have spoken to dealer again and they have agreed to update the discs free of charge after all! Why could they not just do this to start with? Oh well thanks everyone for your help!

Cheers, thanks for your help! But know I need to know how to use it! lol Are there any online manuals for the TMC stuff and are there any other changes to how it works in general after this upgrade?

 :D

The TMC explanation is in the RNS-E manual that you should have got with the car. If you need the latest manual they are only £10 from your dealer. No other meaningful changes happen with the 2007 disc.

TMC is seamlessly integrated, their isn't much you need to do. Press Info to see a list of TMC messages, press Setup and make sure that the station is set to Auto.

In the Nav setup menu just make sure Dynamic route guidance is set. Then if a TMC message is received for your route the unit will inform you verbally and re-route you (if possible - if not she will tell you so) and will display an icon on the road that is affected.

Thats it in terms of what you do...

Cool, Cheers guys! I will take a look at the info. I got the 2008 discs in the end not the 2007.

That instruction manual is for the US version so doesn't cover TMC or Traffic Programme recording.

A new manual costs about £15 from the $tealer...
