Hi All,

The cooling fans are permanantly on even when the engine is cold. This does not happen all the time just now and then. Any ideas ????

what reading are you getting from your temp dial? could be a faulty temp sender/sensor to blame?:beerchug:

It seems fine the same as it always has been around the 70 mark. when warm. Ive disconnected it at the moment because it sounded like a plane coming down the road. Some one has told me it could be the Temp sender unit ???? As you have said, Is it expensive as most things are on these ?

erm, expensive, nto sure, i had to get a temp sender for my fiat brava and that cost around £50, shouldnt think it would be much more than that for this?

its a pain in the aras, but from what you said it just sounded exactly like a temp sender. i wouldnt run around with it disconnected for very long though mate your risking an overheat and you dont want that :(

The fan is controlled by a switch in the radiator, independant on the temp sender. sound like that has gone faulty. common problem on MK1's not sure about yours.

The car does have A/C I have disconnected it and the cooling fans seem to be ok. I will need an auto electrcian to have a look at the relays etc to find the fault ? Any ideas ? Do you know where the switch is ? Thanks P.S. at this stage is does not appear to be the temp sendor

Just had the same problem on the girlfriends MKIII GTI. Fan running all the time. Changed the switch in the rad (R/H side). £9 from local vw specialist. You'll need a 29mm socket.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, but I cant seem to find it ? Any help please ? Would the normal VW garages have this sensor / switch ?
