<Sigh> your getting confused with Marantz.

Do you get under chassis UV lighting with your spec?.... backwards baseball cap and a sovereign? :biglaugh:

Exactly how many speakers are located in the rear parcel shelf? (it looks like only 2, but could be room for 4.) And where is the subwoofer?

There is a microphone in there somewhere too, to monitor ambient noise levels and adjust accordingly. Sweet!!!

Sounds so good it shook me all night long (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Bomv-6CJSfM)

Nice I thought BOSE was loud but nowhere near 505W.

You had the stereo up full volume yet? :D

This is something that was top of my list. Yes of course you could probably get something better as aftermarket, but never looks as good. Always used to be OK when every car had single DIN headunits, but since a lot of them are now integrated it never looks as good.

14 speakers should include the subwoofer. But your diagram has 15 blobs? Which is it? 14+subwoofer (15 total), or just 14? If only 14, one of your blobs is extra/incorrect.

Also, can you tell us what type of speakers are in the rear parcel shelf? Are they midrange speakers, or just tweeters? The circular metal ring bezel around the rear speakers seem awful small compared to the perforated grill surface. That's why I wondered if there were actually 4 speakers in the rear shelf.

Yep, my mistake.
Ive corrected the image.
The blob in the boot is actually the DSP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_signal_processing)unit.

Here it is again

Cool, makes sense now, thanks! So how big are the speakers in the shelf? Same size as the lower ones on the doors (by your foot)? Or smaller like the ones on top of the dash?

if that was true then this (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=b%26o+philips&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) would throw up more conclusive results.

besides don't all consumer electronics contain components or technology from another manufacturer in some form or another??

Fact is, the B&o system sounds the biz and it was the first option I included.
Here's to those who know what im talking about. :beerchug:

I hvae no idea what that music is on the first image..........

Im sure the B&O system sounds great for a factory ordered fit and its obviously been designed to the acoustics of the car and great value for £550. Anyone else seen the motorised tweeters on the LWB A8 W12?

They are not best known for their sound quality, most people recognise the brand for their design and simple to use interfaces. True Audiophiles (I class myself as one :D) would not going anywhere near the brand in the home! But, Im jealous that I left it off the list on my A4,

I also beleive that there is no relationship between B&O and Philips. They make their own components in their own factory in Nordic countries (although this may have moved due to a rumoured cost saving!) .

Hi, I am not trying to say that B&O, Bose or Harman Kardon dont sound good, actually i said that WHAT YOU HEAR its what it matters ! As long as you happy then thats ok, however, from an audiophile point of view, they are mediocre, yet they cost big bucks to own...I used to have Phoenix God ZPA 0.5 amplifiers in me previous car sound system and you can tell the difference, all the i-pod malarky is that latelly is quantity over quality so what you hear is right. I still believe there is better gear out there without having to pay the premiums, all u have to do is look !

Does anybody know how the speaker location or configuration is different in the Avant? Where is the subwoofer relocated, and does the Avant have only 12 speakers (instead of the full 14 in the sedan) since there is no rear parcel shelf?

The back speakers are in the rear most pillars. I dont know where the sub is but im gonna have a look tomorrow. - I may even take some pics.

The (10") Sub in in the parcel shelf - but you can only see if from in the boot when you look up. The DSP/AMP is on the left behind the flap.

I have to say that the sound system in this car is better than any knocked up aftermarket pieces put together - I have heard a few and most have some compromise somewhere, either cost, brand mix, too much bass, tinny car interior that reverberates etc..

I am led to believe they used the cabin volume to work out the sound to a rather fine degree, with carefully selected components for complete soundfill and no distortion of the lows or the highs - crystal clear for any volume - given the limitations of a car interior!

The technology is actually developed by IcePower.
http://www.icepower.bang-olufsen.com/

This was a spin off from B&O, which until recently was operating independently. I met with them many times looking at doing business. Awesome technology in their amplifiers.

High power, low current, SMALL and low power. Really great stuff.

Trust me, this is not re-badged anything. Their adaptive DSP is quite good too.

This is really good stuff, and if it didnt cost so much here, i would have jumped on it....that and I have an "icepower" sample. ;)

You will find it in spare wheel niche. Some plastic box.

Really? I don't have my Avant yet so I can't check. Does the subwoofer have a port or grill (or does it just emit sound through the carpet?)?
