Was the 2004 R32 in Europe available with a DSG transmission?

I'm trying to settle a bet.

TIA

As far as I can remeber back to 2004, it was only available in manual
6-speed option form. The only performance model back then available in Automatic form was the V5.

I hope this helps

Nope, absolutely not. The 2004 R32 was the Mk4 variant. The first R32 to get DSG was the 2006 Mk5 variant.

http://www.doppel-wobber.de/ is your friend for all things Golf.

Well I read your link again and it turns out that in 2003 the MKIV did have a DSG option. :o

Hmmm - I think you may have misread it! If this linky http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.doppel-wobber.de&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools was what you were looking at, the data fields for the DSG are blank.

Like I said in my earlier post, the Mk4 R32 (nor any Mk4 Golf) ever had DSG fitted, certainly not in the UK anyhow! Another linky for you http://www.uk-mkivs.net/ who might be able to confirm.

You may be right about the UK as I have no way to verify it. However, using the link you sent me if you first select history for Golf 4 and then select R32 at Aug 2002 you will see that in 2003 the DSG was available. Very confusing for sure.:beerchug:

Hmmm . . . I see. But if you look at the bottom line of the External equipment block, you see the line "R32 with DSG not as 4-Türer available". As 4-Türer doesn't translate in either Google or Babelfish, I think it may 4-Motion - the way I see that - if you get an R32 without 4-Motion, then it aint an R32!

That is perhaps why some sites list the R32 with DSG, but you never actually saw any in the flesh, and why the data fields in the other link are blank - 'cause no-one wanted them!

4-Türer = 4 doors

4-Türer = 4 doors

Is that a definate translation? :D

We still don't have a truly definative answer to this issue of Mk4 R32 with DSG.

Anyone else go any thoughts?

Under the Golf 4 R32 listing at http://www.doppel-wobber.de/ under the Information heading it states:

Seit Mitte 2003 kommt auch das neue DSG (http://www.doppel-wobber.de/dsg.html) zum Einsatz - ein neues 6-Gang-Vollautomaticgetriebe.

Loosely, tranlated it states: "Since mid-2003 the new DSG is used - a new 6 speed automatic transmission.

Under "Ausedausstattung" (external equipment), it states:

"R32 mit DSG nicht als 4-Türer lieferbar "

R32 with DSG not available as a 4-door.

From what I can tell, the website does affirm a DSG transmission for the R32, but it would have been produced later in the model year. If that makes sense.

OK, thanks for that help, rudemeisterman.

Do you know if this was for the German/LHD market only, or was it also for the UK / RHD market too?

Were any actually sold? My gut-feeling is that very few would have been sold, as the R32 was initial seen as quite a "purist" kind of car!
