I've seen some Porsche Boxter alloys on eBay, will they fit my wife's new beetle? Could somebody explain by offsets?

The offset is the ET number which means Einpress Tiefe in German which loosely translates as pressed in depth so basically the dish of the wheel. A Porsche wheel is around ET 55 and a VW wheel around ET 35. The Porsche wheel also had a different bolt pattern. Now from this you may think there is no way it will work, but it will. To make the wheels fit you need an adapter to go from VW 5x100 PCD to Porsche 5x130 and that needs to be around 20-mm which just by coincidence will alter the Porsche ET from 55 to 35.

the lower a number is the further the spacer is on the inside of the wheel peugeot/citreon have the biggest 18/25 where as porche has 55 virtually no spacer and the 5/130 is the distance between the studs
