My passat 02 TDi was idling at about 900 revs. I took it to VW to have the the central locking fixed and for them to look at problems with the radio and wipers (which they said there were no faults).

When i got the car back it idles at just under 1000. I phoned them and took it back. They did a diagnostic and said that its the temperature cooling sensor thats gone wrong.

I bought the sensor and installed it, but it didnt make any difference.
Ive looked on the forums and it seems that the sensor is a problem.

What else can i do?

Thanks in advance

Yes, change with VAG COM I lowered mine right down to save fuel.

Observe the "test value" field to make sure the adaptation setting is acceptable.
[Save]

Channel 2: idle speed

The stock adaptation value should be 32768 (corresponds to 903 rpm).
Increase or decrease this to change idle speed.
