Gear shifting problem on 2005 1.6 FSI

Hi all,
My gear is behaving strange lately, after 20 minutes drive approx. the gear change between 3rd and 4th gear is bumpy:
The RPM climbs to around 4500 and then the gear suddenly kicks in.
Sometimes the gear is not kicked in at all.

This only happens between 3rd and 4th gear - and both in auto or Tiptronick mode. Again, the strange thing about it that it only appears after 20 minutes.

My mechanic says I need to replace the "MechTronic" whic is very pricy - should I take his advice?

Im having the same sort of symptoms as yours on my 2005 2.0 fsi however I still havent had any replies to my post.

It really is a pain in the backside especially when you need to suddenly accelerate, after 20mins or so this starts to happen however the sound of my Audi also become louder than usual, it sounds abit like how a diesel should sound does your do this as well.

Its really frustrating not knowing what to spend money on, I recently serviced it (spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, coil pack) all replaced but no change, it also seems to be drinking alot more fuel,

my onboard computer tells me 25.5 MPG surely this shouldnt be right.

Please let me know if you get it sorted or get any response to your question
