Does anyone know if my 1998 110tdi Passat SE will have a dual mass flywheel or just a normal one. Ive rung a couple of vw specialists and they have quoted 2 figures for a clutch change as even they arent sure!

AFN and AVG use the same flywheel, so that narrowed it down. Just not sure which flywheel it is!

Searching 1998 Passat I'm only getting part numbers for flywheels on AEB, ATW & AUG Engines.

Engine code is AFN. Ive had a look through the Haynes manual for the car, and it doesnt mention DMF, just your normal flywheel!

I had my clutch done a few months ago on 1999 tdi (AFN) and I was told it was a Dual Mass F/wheel and that it was OK and did'nt need replacing, so I was lucky I guess!!Let's hope you have the same luck!

It would rattle like a bag of nails if it was not a DMF...they were fitted as an refinement. There is an Valeo single mass flywheel wich can be fitted onto the tdi engine, but i would not reccomend it at all. Stick to the factory parts and you will be fine. There is no better aftermarket upgrade than the factory Sachs/Luk flywheel.....
