Remote not working

Hi everyone.
i thought the batterys in my key remote had run out so i replaced them.
but the remote still isnt working.

does anybody know if it requires reprogramming or will it need to be replaced.

if it is faulty would a new shape remote work. and can i use a 3 button instead of my 2 button ?

one thing you can do is turn the key in the ignition to the final turn before it starts the engine while holding the lock or unlock button for 5 seconds. if this doesn't work and you have 2 keys do the same again but press the lock or unlock button on the key that isn't in the ignition. audi keys are known for this. otherwise it may need re-programming! :(
