Volkswagen has today unveiled first details and images of the most powerful production Polo to date, the new Polo GTI. The high performance Polo will make its international debut at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show in Chiba City, Japan, later this month.

The hottest version of Polo will be powered by the 1.8-litre turbo-charged petrol engine already seen in other Volkswagen cars. In Polo GTI specification, the engine will produce 150 PS whilst torque will hit 220 Nm. This makes the Polo GTI capable of 0-62 mph in only 8.2-seconds and a top speed of 134 mph.

Externally, there is no mistaking the ‘baby brother’ styling cues taken from the successful and multi-award winning Golf GTI. Sporty 16-inch alloy wheels, bright red brake calipers, visible polished exhaust tail pipes, rear spoiler, a 15mm lower stance on sports suspension and the legendary GTI logo on a honeycomb style-grille will clearly mark the most sporting Polo to date.

On the inside, sports seats and aluminium detailing sit alongside black and red stitched seat belts and a three-spoke leather covered steering wheel.

The Polo GTI has inherited visible elements of DNA from the Golf GTI and the equipment list and specification revealed so far point to a striking small-car package.

Pricing, performance and detailed UK specification will be announced closer to launch.
