Hi Fella.
There is only 1 thing I can think it could be.
Check the mobile setting and make sure that the "SIM ACCESS PROFILE" is set to YES...
In English, your allowing the car kit to access the SIM card and obtain the information.
Let me know if this solves the problem.

forgot to have a look at it today but i'm sure that the numbers on the MMI screen were from the phonebook rather than the SIM on my previuos phone

you may need rsap adapter as it sounds like your phone firmware isnt compatible with the current BT unit but the rsap may resolve this

What phone model is it?
I've got exactly the same problem with the iPhone 3G that I'm hoping Apple will solve with new firmware.
Not all phones support RSAP so you;d need to check that it worked before committing to £350 or so.

A1 Exp:
My 3G iPhone works fine with high phone prep.
It didn't offer the option of importing the phone book at first so I deletwd the bluetooth connection, re-established then waited on the import screen as it read the phone (this can take 5 minutes or longer)
Worked fine since and I imported those phone numers I need onto the car directory.
iPhone firmware: 2.1 (5F136)
J
my iphone 3g works a treat without importing to the directory.
it reads the phone book on the phone.
sometimes it takes a miniute or two to have the phone book accessable through the car.
dont get confused between phone book and directory. thats the trick.

I've only got phone prep low.
I'm told Apple does support RSAP which phone prep high uses so that may be why it works for jtorange but not for me.
Jop have you got phone prep high or low?
And if it's low, what firmware do you have on the iPhone?
I've been told that it did work originally for some people on the original 2.0 firmware, but that changed with 2.0.1
I've got my iPhone hooked up to my corporate exchange account, which downloads my contacts to the device phone book.
My company directory is separate and i know that's not going to appear on my car.
I've had it hooked up for hours and I've paired and unpaired the car and phone numerous times.
I've also got another iPhone with the same firmware that exhibits exactly the same symptoms so it's not just a faulty phone.

As an additional question, I wasn't aware you could import numbers to a directory on the car, is this a phone prep high feature?
I thought it read the phone book from the car, the only thing that is stored in the car is the voice dials.

The Bluetooth Remote SIM Access Profile (rSAP) cradle adaptor is an enhancement of the factoryfitted
option "Mobile phone preparation - Low". It enables mobile phone handsets to connect via
Bluetooth Remote SIM Access Profile (rSAP) in the same way as handsets connect to the factoryfitted
option "Mobile phone preparation - High".
The Bluetooth rSAP adaptor is fitted to the same connection as all other adaptor cradles (either on
the dashboard or in the front centre armrest). The mobile handset is then connected to the rSAP
cradle via Bluetooth. When handsets are connected, the cradle enables the use of the external GSM
car antenna and deactivates the handset antenna in order to minimise GSM radiation in the car and
handset battery consumption. The handset is put into standby mode so battery power drain is
minimal.
Once connected, the cradle connects to the handset automatically and details of up to four handsets
can be saved. Only handsets with Bluetooth rSAP functionality are compatible with this cradle. Details
of mobile handsets that are compatible with rSAP can be found on audi parts
Customer Benefits The rSAP cradle adaptor is flexible so can be used with a variety of different handsets. This
makes it future proof for compatibility with new handsets “Mobile phone preparation – Low” already has a Bluetooth connection but this only operates in a
mode called “Hands Free Profile”. This means that although calls can be made and received using
the car, the phones antenna and battery are operating at full capacity when making and receiving
calls. The rSAP cradle adaptor uses the cars external antenna and power supply to make and
receive calls which improves call quality and reduces handset battery consumption.

Apple iPhone 1.1.2 minimum firmware version when tested 2008.If the Iphone is updated with ActiveSync®, depending on equipment and phonebook size, you may
experience intermittent breaks in the Bluetooth connection.
If this happens, reduce the quantity or length of entries in your phonebook.
SAP profile matching. The mobile phone allows matching in HFP profile only and not in SAP pofile
Some phones need SAP profile activating seperately

Easy for you to say:D
Jop have you got phone prep high or low? And if it's low, what firmware do you have on the iPhone? . I ordered phone prep low, I tried to clarify that this is what I have had fitted by following "a8 Tech's" instructions, but my screen shows different info. -See image below
I also have DVD Nav, (if this makes a difference) - I think some call it "MMI-High"
The iphohe is 3g running 2.1, although it worked on 2.0. Also my pal has an S5 and 1st gen Iphone still running 1.4 and he doesn’t have any problems accessing his phone book with his phone prep low install. He too has DVD nav.
I haven’t tuned anything on or off on my iphone or MMI. I just connected it using the standard setup. - For clarity: I only use Bluetooth, no cradle or cable.
As an additional question, I wasn't aware you could import numbers to a directory on the car, is this a phone prep high feature? I thought it read the phone book from the car, the only thing that is stored in the car is the voice dials.
the directory holds name, address and phone number info and is accessible using the NAME button of MMI. Here you can create a single entry and have access to it using the NAV unit or Telephone. - You can import numbers from your PHONES phonebook into the CAR's directory in the NAME section of the MMI also.
The push feature of the iphone coupled with the ability to connect to my phones phone book is powerful. Just last week I called the wife because I needed the number of a golf club, of course I was driving so I couldn’t jot the number down. She simply added it to my address book on our imac, within 3-4 mins it was synced with my phone and available for me to dial hands free using the multifunction wheel.

current prep low sw version 950 and high is 960 To check your sw version Press set up and return and hold until the secret menu comes up then select handyvorb and the hardware and software version will be displayed I don’t have a handyvorb entry (just handyvorb2) http://gallery.me.com/jonpaul99/100180/photo1223536370512/web.jpg

They do scratch very easy. My previous one was a reet mess. Fortunately the speaker went iffy, so i got a replacement from Orange. On the plus side, i find the camera pretty reasonable quality. Cant beat Nokia for funtionality i dont think

I'm aware of the RSAP adapter and I had a look but they're about £350 and I'd have to give up the cradle for my iPhone.
If you've got Nav then you have MMI High, however after investigating the iPhone 3G doesn't support RSAP, just HFP, so I'm not sure why high works and low doesn't, possible different software versions.
I tried to press and hold "Return" and "Setup" but no secret menu appeared. Is this only available with MMI High and if not, what's the trick to getting the menu to appear?
I don't have a car directory so assume that is also only available on MMI high.
If only audi hadn't wanted £2k for the Sat Nav option...

I dont know if its just on MMI high, but I had the same problem to being with.
You need to be in a specific menu.
Either TEL or CAR (I cant remember)

I'm definitely being dense...
I've tried selecting radio and pressing the buttons but I get no menu.
I've tried with the key in, with the ignition on and with the engine running but no menu appears.
I've tried pressing return first, setup first and pressing them at the time, still no menu.
What am I doing wrong?!?!
How long should I hold before the menu appears?

I just tried this too, with no success.. I have a Concert and AMI rather than MMI, so perhaps this is a MMI only option???

Hi folks, newbie here - anyone know if it's possible to get a cradle adaptor to fit the new iPhone 4S? And if so how much is it? I have the cradle fixed on the side of the centre console in my 2006 A4
