Afternoon

I have a 1999 Audi A4 B5 2.4v6 and want to get it lowered slightly I have added 19" wheels with 235/35 tyres and the gap is still suprisingly big and I dont think it looks right to be honest.

I have heard that if I use lowering springs then I need to change the shocks also.
Or am I better off getting some coilovers?

I need to know where the best place in Hampshire is to go to get some advise and to get this done.
Many thanks in advance.

Matt.

If you get a set of eibach springs, then you dont need to change the shocks as they are designed to work with stock springs. However, its a wise move to upgrade the shocks to new sport units as probably they took a bit of battering so far. If yo go for drastic lowering, then the bump stops will need upgrading to sport units and the suspenssion bearing/mounts will need renewing . Coilovers are a good idea but you need to get a good make as cheap ones are ussualy rubbish !

Alright mate I have seen some cheap Coilovers on Fleabay and I think I would give them a miss, I only want to go about 40mm max I think that should make a nice difference, where is the best place to get springs, shocks from?

Sorry for all the questions

Matt.

Ebay is great but stay away of the very cheap ones. Get good CNC formed ones like PI springs, H & R, Eibach, FK, etc. and stay away of the Jamex, Jetex whatever they called nowadays ! I had a customer once which replaced all springs and shocks and the car would not stay level across the the axles ! Also get the right load rated springs as dealer has many different shocks/springs conbination for different engines...Yours is a v6 one so you might get diesel ratted ones as v engines are quite heavy ! However, aftermarket springs wont be like the dealers offer so you might find that "one size fits all" kind of product !

Here is a pic do you think that 35mm will be enough I really dont want any rubbing on full lock.

Link does not work. Some A4/s4 fitted with factory sport suspenssion had a short ratio steering rack fitted as well, to stop wider/bigger alloys rubbing on the inner arches. Don't know about yours, however, i reckon your 19" may catch if you go lower than 30-35mm, keep as close to the 45 mm offset as possible ! I had an 2.5 tdi a4 with lowered factory eibach sport suspenssion, had no problem with 18" alloys et 35 though ! Now i fitted these to my a6 2.5 Tdi on lowered 40mm Pi Springs and the alloys look a bit lost in the arches... Have a set of Rial Daytona Race split rim alloys from the S3 i had 3 years ago and never got round to get adaptors made to fit . Those will fill the arches properly as they are 8.5" wide deep dish jobbies !
