Is it normal to feel embarrassed when accelerating my TDI 130 bhp. It has done 60k now but it smokes excessively on acceleration. As anyone any ideas other than a balaclarva.:aargh4:

what sort of smoke, Black white/grey blue..if its black normal. good fuel additive, clean of inlet manifold will help. Others may show signs of a probelm.

I notice it the most in other peoples headlights. When i put my foot down on the motorway i leave a cloud of smoke initially only at kick down.I know it burns a bit of oil but i think that is common for diesels.

Mines like that, It's either the MAF (mass air flow meter) on the way out or the inlet manifold needs a clean out as the EGR (exhuast gas recirculation) system clogs it up with soot. what your seeing is un burnt fuel.

have you had the timeing belt ghange recently? as 60k or 4 years is the change interval.

Hi

Thanks for all your replys. My timing belt has not been changed what sort of cost will that be? I have found that my air filter box is cracked ( with quite a big hole) will this cause me a problem. If it is the turbo how will i check that. I do find that the kick down on my multitronic is pretty useles as it just makes noise and not nessarily makes me accelerate quickly. I used to have a honda cdti before this and that was a flying machine compared to my 130bhp audi:1zhelp:

The hole in the air box will affect the smoke output, so i would start there. The cam belt change can cost btween £250 at an independent to £500 at some dealers best to shop around for a specialist independant as the timing setup in crucae on a diesel. I alos recommend you get it done as the belt does takes allot of strain on the PD engine and its £1000's to fix the engine if it goes.

On the power issue I would get the fault codes read and look into replacing the MAF as this is the major cause of this type of problem. your 130 should have a good low down surge my 110 does. but when i bought it it didn't I changed the MAF and a new air filter which made it rocket.

MAF prices seem to have come down latley, but £80ish should get you a new genuine one. My car is not a multitronic and I haven't considered more power as I'm happy with the setup.

I beleive that Audi have spent millions getting the best power versus reliabilty. So if you modify expect it not to last as long, but thats my opinion;)

Mate, trust me, a good running PD 130 TDI will take on that CDTI Honda all day long ! I Know the way they go and there are not so many decent diesels that will keep up with it ! Also a good engine remap will see close to 170 Bhp and that used to be petrol sport's cars teritory few years ago ! Beware as the tiptronic 'box wont get much abuse and a manual one will be cheaper to service on the long run ! Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice on the multitronic i think i will steer clear of remapping. There seems to be alot of problems with the multitronic. Did you say the cdti is no comparison to the tdi 130 bhp because there must be something wrong with mine then. It is very sluggish at take off and not much happens at kick down other than smoke.:( However fuel consumption is around 43 mpg and that is good when im doing 78 miles to work each day
