i have a 4.2 v8 auto engine and box from an a8 of about 1997 age. i'm looking to ditch the auto box and use a 2wd manual box and the engine for a project. what boxes will fit onto this engine? also will i need to change the flywheel and what clutches will i need etc? any help would be great!

cheers!

You would be looking at s4 or rs4 if you used the quattro system but as for a straight swap i think 2.8 is the biggest a8 engine that used a manual box 2wheel drive but i have never seen one with a manual box.So you may need to swap the bell housing from a 2.8 manual onto the s4 box and disregard the quattro coupling

it doesn't need to be quattro! the car it is going into is goin to be 2 wheel drive only. this is why i was wondering what 2 wheel drive gearboxes will fit. i have heard that the a6 box would fit and would be strong enough!

so if this is not true, and i get a bell housing from the 2.8 a8 manual box, which flywheel do i need to use?

cheers for your input. much appreciated.

Audi S8 quattro have a manual gerbox
Audi A8 2.8 and 3.7 fwd have a manual gearbox

gearbox from smaller engines will probably break so fast as you didnt expect
