0,5 of a gallon of Somerset Scrumpy in the boot of my Golf and it stinks like hell, I've tried using AutoGlym Interior Shampoo + a Neutradol air freshener and it doesn't seem to have touched the overpowering smell of scumpy, which could prove interesting if I were to get stopped by the old bill!

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the stink please! :1zhelp:

The smell of non-stale Scrumpy is enough to make me retch, heave and gag, I can only imagine what stale Scrumpy smells like :(

What about hiring one of those steam cleaner things (Morrisons have them IIRC) and going at it?

The rug doctor (http://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/) is an excellent piece of kit.

Easy to use, and you'll be amazed at what comes out of the carpets...

You might as well use it in the house as well ahile you hire it!

I don't work for them by the way, nor am i on commission, but i have hired one from Morrissons and it was brilliant.

oh and it might be worth checking if it has seeped into the spare wheel well... If it has, i'd take everything out and dettol the lot! including the metal.

you don't want mold growing...

That's the thing I was on about.

Sounds like something Tony Blackburn would use ;)

There's none in the wheel well, it's just the pong!

I'm going to visit ********* tomorrow after work see what's available there, I've found a can of Groom upholstery cleaner, so I'll give that a bash too...

I've considered the rug doctor but it seems expensive at £20+chemicals, it's also extremely bulky. :(

But you get to deep clean the house carpets as well.... Your missus will be well impressed, (they come up like new), and suddenly £20 odd quid seems like a bargain!

Mate you could do with removing the boot carpet out and cleaning it,the best way is to applying a citrus carpet cleaner to the carpet and scrubbing it,or you can take it to a local garage forecourt (eg BP) and applying a jetwash to the carpet and leaving it out to dry for a few hours. You need to get to the route of the problem and if you have checked the wheel well and cleaned that up then the carpet cleaning should be done next,a full clean then some airfreshner to finish the job.

Ta, I think I'll give that a go, although I've found some Biological carpet cleaner & some other stuff which is used for cleaning up all sorts of stuff from vomit to alcohol at work (railway!), sprinkle on rub it in and see what happens.

I'll also bear what you've said about giving it a thorough wash as well.

Ta! :D

BTW I'm currently trying this stuff which I bought from a local cleaning supplier in Guildford for approx £2,40.

It seems to be working at the moment, I'll let you know if it's fully successful.

Well that stuff that I tried was only partially successful... :(

However I have seemed to have cracked it with 1001 Carpet Shampoo & loads of warm/hot water & elbow grease...

It took a whole bottle of it used in relatively strong concentrations, but so far so good & it was only £2,10 for a bottle. :D

I'm now going to buy a large polyurethane box + VW Bootliner!
