Stereo console

I have bought a 1.6 Seat Cordoba, and the console LCD comes on by itself, also the stereo mutes every 8 seconds for about 0.5 seconds, and it does this on radio/CD. The fault does not seem to be a dry joint or dodgy connection. It seems to be processor related, as if the micro is being told by external source to mute.
Any ideas.
