I have an a6 1.9 tdi sport 2002 and wondered what are the benefits for re-mapping and are there any problems eg:rapid wear and tear etc.
Thanks.

Benefits: Get a map tailored to your car (custom one) - In theory will be more suitable than the standard factory map. Better mpg under the same given driving conditions. MORE power = safe overtaking in my head.

Cons: Will be difficult to wipe the :D :D :D off your face. ;) Sure, if you use all that power all the time, you will munch tyres - but drive the same with a little more use of power whilst at speed (rather than wheelspinning) and your tyre wear should be little different. In theory, over time, engine components would wear out quicker, but it's marginal, and with proper maintenance there's no reason a remapped TDI won;t go on as long as a standard one would. Speaking from someone who has had remapped TDIs for nigh on 3 years and around 90,000 miles.
