Hello,
I'm new here- first post.
I have a BMW 535i but want to change it for something less thirsty. I'm looking at an A6 tdi but i would like any advice people can offer on whether to go for a 2.5 or a 1.9. The budget i have seems to get me a 53 plate with 80-90k miles.
Any help on engine choice or other trouble points appreciated.
Dave.

Hi,
After owning a BMW 530d 2001 myself and now owning a 2002 a6 1.9 tdi sport, I can only say, if it is economy with reasonable power that you are seeking, then the 1.9 tdi will accomodate.
The fuel figures are approx. 60mpg motorway, 48 mpg combined and 36 mpg around the town.
Although it isn't a racing car, it is quite sporty to drive and the reliability is excellent.;)

2.5 will be slightly thirstier. However, have the 1.9 and remap it, and you will have a car with more bhp and torque than the 2.5 standard, and with better economy for normal driving. :)

It will be nice for you to get in a car without optional indicators ;) (joke :p)
