Hi Can anyone help me ?
I bought a MK3 Golf GTI today and when I was travelling home the car kept cutting out on me and dying when slowing down at lights and even just going around corners. Does anyone know what the problem may be ?

Thanks

No doubt the reason the car was sold and a very common one at that, I see loads like this. You should have a word with the vendor as they obviously know what they have done but I can almost guarantee that if you contact them you will get the usually “Nahh m8, it nvre dun that befor like, yeh”.

Firstly we need to know the year and engine code but I am guessing it is between 95 and 98 with either an ADY or AGG engine.

From what you are describing I would say you have two faults IF it is actually cutting out whilst driving along in gear and not just when dipping the clutch.

Thanks for getting back to me.
The car is a 1998 model and I dont know if it is ADY or AGG.
The car does it when dipping clutch slowing down at lights and in gear. I went around a bend toiday at about 20 mph and it just died when I put the foot on brake and of course everything went and I nearly crashed lol. Was pretty scary. Do you know what power steering fluid it also takes because that is below minimum ? Thanks

It will be AGG as ADY was for 95 only. The first step is to get it to someone with suitable diagnostic equipment that can readapt the throttle body and also give it a precautionary fault code read. Before that the throttle body needs to be removed, carefully cleaned internally with a stiff nylon brush and aerosol carb cleaner and then re-fitted. Be careful not to rip the T/body to manifold gasket as the dealer usually doesn’t keep them and it would be a next day order.

Sorry, forgot that. These Golf’s take mineral hydraulic fluid which is available from any VW dealer or VAG parts specialist and the VW number is G 004 000 M2 for 1 litre which is much more than you should need but only costs £6.69 from VW.

I see you are from Nottingham lol. That is where I got the car from today in Beeston. I will never use this guy again because he should be reported to trading standards. I saw his ad on the internet on Autotrader. It said it had a sunroof ,FSH , Air con ,CD multichanger and a few other things but when I got there it had none of these at all. All he said was thats not my fault it is our advertisers fault and laughed. What a joke ? Anyway thanks again and catch you soon.
