Exhaust emissions

Hi, I'm new to this site and in need of some assistance please.. My emissions light came on yesterday, I took it to a VW dealer this morning. I'm told my car needs a new Air flow meter, Intake pipe and lambda probe.. the total cost was just over £400 including VW labour.. does this sound excessive? He said it's not dangerous to drive at the moment. Only my partner, who knows quite a bit about cars, says to order the parts separately and he'll fit them.. Advisable? Many thanks for your help

I suggest getting a second opinion from an independent garage. VW ********, sorry dealers, have a habit of creating unnecessary work. See previous posts re similar problem.

Ours was due to a split vacuum hose - cost of hose £0.50
